Day ONE - Thursday 9 May
Objectives
- To provide an opportunity for selected authors of BSSCD clinical and audit prizes to present their work to the BSSCD Spring Conference.
- To provide an overview of the important medical problems impacting on the safe delivery of dental care.
Learning content
By the end of this activity the participant will:
- Have heard from prize presentation speakers on a range of clinical scenarios and audit relevant to special care dentistry
- Have a greater understanding of renal disease, its medical management, transplantation and its potential effects on dental management
- Have a greater understanding of liver disease, its medical management and its potential effects on dental management
- Understand the importance of dental assessment as part of the vasculitis pathway.
- Review knowledge of oral dysplasia and current research into management of oral cancers.
- Understand the benefits of collaborative working to improve patient care and the knowledge base of special care dentistry.

Day TWO - Friday 10 May
Objectives
- To provide a forum for members of Special Care Dental Teams to network, share expertise and learn from one another
- To discuss cancer pathways, current and future medical and surgical approaches to cancer treatment
- Provide an overview of the safe delivery of dental care, before during and after cancer treatment.
Learning content
- Discuss the preoperative assessment and post operative care of patients with head and neck cancer.
- Update knowledge regarding radiotherapy/ chemoradiation.
- Update regarding the advances of post head and neck cancer oral rehabilitation and the improvement in patients quality of life
- Hear from a patient who has experienced cancer, their journey and subsequent challenges.
- Review the safe management of patients taking chemotherapy as part of their cancer care.
- Look at the current surgical advances in management of head and neck cancer.
- Have a greater understanding of the biological agents now used for treatment of cancers and the risk of MRONJ
- Update knowledge on the assessment, identification of patients at risk of MRONJ ORN.
- Review the management of patients with ORN and MRONJ
